About
UNIndex is a neutral, data-driven explorer of United Nations votes. It does not advocate, rank countries, or score them.
Principles
- Facts come from structured data. Tallies, dates, resolution numbers and country positions are parsed from official UN datasets. No language model produces them.
- Every number is reproducible. Each page links to its source record, and the methodology states each metric’s definition and limits.
- No editorial framing. The site says what was recorded, not whether it was good or bad.
- Gaps are shown, not guessed. Where the sources are silent, the page says so.
Naming and territories
The site follows the United Nations’ own member-state names and ISO 3166 codes (ISO 3166-3 for former countries). Where the UN dataset used a different name at the time of a vote, that name is shown on the vote. Using a name or code is not a position on any dispute over status, borders or recognition.
Status
This is an early version: the Security Council and the General Assembly from 1946 to the latest published datasets, a calendar of the end dates written into Security Council resolutions, and bloc analysis with a timeline and ideal-point estimates. A feed of what is new, CSV and JSON downloads of every table, and a public API are available (see API and downloads).
Accessibility
The target is WCAG 2.2 level AA. Every page works with a keyboard, has a skip link, labelled forms and landmarks, and respects light and dark colour preferences and reduced motion. Colour is never the only signal: tallies, matrix cells and clusters also carry numbers and text, and each chart has its data in a table. Pages were checked with the axe engine on the live site (all page types, light and dark) and the colour pairs were checked by calculation. Known limits: the cluster map and the timeline are visual drawings, so use the cluster lists and the tracking table to read the same results; wide tables scroll sideways and can be focused with the keyboard. If something does not work for you, please tell us.
